About The Ranch

Alta Ranch sits on 340 acres in the Bitterroot Valley, where the West Fork of the Bitterroot River runs through the property year-round. The Spinetta family has owned and run the ranch for over twenty years, and in that time, it has become the kind of place people come back to. Some guests have been making the trip every summer for close to a decade.

The land includes open meadows, a historic open-air hangar, and clearings right along the river. For guests who fly fish, the West Fork runs through the property with private access, and the main Bitterroot nearby is some of the best trout water in western Montana. A lot of guests plan their whole stay around the fishing, and the river is steps from the cabin door.

When you book Alta Ranch for a wedding or event, the entire property is yours. No shared spaces, and no other groups on the grounds. The Spinettas keep the booking calendar intentionally small to make sure it stays that way. Three log cabins sleep up to 14 guests, so your closest family and friends can stay on-site and wake up the next morning still in the mountains.

The ranch has hosted weddings, family reunions, anniversary trips, and fishing getaways over the years. For weddings, the open-air hangar gets strung with lights and comfortably holds receptions for up to 200 guests. Ceremonies have taken place in the meadows, along the riverbank, and on the open ground with the Bitterroot Mountains behind them. The Spinettas work with each couple or group to figure out how the property fits their plans, not the other way around.

Alta Ranch is located near Darby, Montana, about two hours south of Missoula. The town of Darby is small and close by, and the surrounding area has hiking, horseback riding, white water rafting, and some of the best fly fishing in the state within a short drive.

The Spinetta family has been welcoming guests here for more than twenty years. If you want to come out and walk the land before making any decisions, reach out. We are happy to show you around.
